About the Author

The Name and the Man

Richard MacBrannoch writes about the Scottish Highlands of the eighteenth century – a period he has spent years reading about, in a country he travels and fills notebooks with.

What holds him there is not the battle but the question that follows it: what does a lost cause do to the people who carried it – and what would a won one have done to them?

Between the books come charcoal drawings, maps and notes on real places and on places that exist only in the novels.
